RE: [RT] Is Tradestation still top dog?

There's no right answer to your question - the perfect program does not exist. I
purchased TS2Ki a while back, and I'm glad I did. It is, for sure, an "imperfect"
program - poorly programmed in many respects, and poorly supported. However, it is
also "the standard". There is more information, sample systems, free code, books,
etc. in EasyLanguage than anything else I've seen. Also, the backtesting and system
performance reporting capabilities are extensive. For someone who is in the
learning process, as I am, it's a good way to go.

Note - do NOT buy TS2Ki from Omega! There is almost always a copy available on EBay
or elsewhere for a fraction of the price - make sure you get a permanent password
with it. I don't think you can get support from Omega with this arrangement, but
you get better support here or on the Omega list anyway. TSPro is where they're
putting all their attention these days - if you're interested in more than stocks
it's not an option at this point, and I agree with you that I wouldn't want to be
locked in to their datafeed.

For someone who is primarily interested in discretionary trading, or knows exactly
what system they want to use, Ensign looks like an attractive alternative. Very
highly programmable, but the system testing is primitive compared to Tradestation.
Ensign's performance, reliability and support are far superior, from everything I've
heard and my brief review of the program. I'm holding open the possibility that,
once I've determined the system I want to trade, I'll end up programming it in
Ensign for day-to-day use.

The main shortcoming of TS2Ki for system building is the extreme difficulty of
evaluating a system over multiple markets. Trading Recipes is supposed to be good
at this, and Rina offers a Tradestation add-on for portfolio testing - I haven't
used either.
