I had severe problems with the Elite-PC I got on Ubid. The RAID card was
DOA and the BIOS was misconfigured. I immediately emailed Ubid (they don't
do telephone customer service over the phone) and was told to contact Elite
a week later (they had to bounce my email up three levels of customer
service to tell me that??) I went round and round with Ubid and then
Elite-PC (who had only slightly more responsive customer service). I sent
the computer to Elite-PC (at my own expense) and received it back and then
was unable to install Windows on it because of hard drive problems. I was
ready to drop kick it out the window.

I called Ubid finally to get my money back. After putting up some
resistance because it was now outside of the 30 day return window, they
ultimately paid the return postage and gave me a full refund. I bought a
Gateway Athlon machine and have been happy ever since.

My new policy is to only buy things on Ubid where the company has such a
good reputation and warranty that I won't have to deal with UBid's slow,
difficult customer service. I've been happy with the IBM Thinkpad and pair
of Philips LCD monitors I got on UBid.
