Re: Prophet EOD data

I had a good experience with DOS ACCESS for about a year or so, and then I
had major problems. One day, I just couldn't connect to their database
anymore when I dialed up. They recommended I buy a new modem because I
supposedly had what they call "broken teeth". Even though everything else
I use the modem for functioned OK, they still insisted it was a hardware
problem on my end. Well, the new modem didn't work out and I still
couldn't log on. I couldn't figure out why and neither could they,
although Prophet has a history of denial about it's own problems that it
realizes it always had, IMHO.

So they recommended, as a workaround, that I use BetterData via the
internet connectivity of the Data Downloader found in SC and TS. So far it
works OK, most of the time. I have had problems with gettting data for
certain dates for the cash indices, as if the data is not available on
their data server, even though they swear it's there. They say it's a
problem with my Data Downloader. Now, I just plug in the holes with
Bloomberg's data.

Yesterday, I decided to spot check my INDU cash index with Bloomberg's and
I found major diffs with the O, H, and L; only the Close agreed with each
other. The others differed by as much as 10-25 points! My check went from
12/1/97- 12/15/97. I'm afraid to look any further back for fear of what I
might find. I sent them an email about the discrepancy and am awaiting
their response.

I received an email last night about major updates to their software and
database, but I have yet to see any improvement in my service, data
quality. Stuff like this kinda makes me want to open my own data service
business, just so I can get reliable quotes.

Frustratedly Yours,
