It would help if you told us:
Which Windows
Which CPU and speed
How much RAM
Which drive, how much space free, what RPM (very important)

Sometimes the best way to speed up a process was to use better mathematics.
Many times it is possible to use simpler mathematics, or algorithms, to
accomplish the same task.
