RE: changes to Privacy Statement at traders2traders.com

PureBytes Links

Trading Reference Links

Ola raised a concern of allowing some links and/or publication of some pages
at www.traders2traders.com that would have a commercial flavor. I couldn't
agree more with his concern that commercializing the site would be an
implied breach of faith on which the site grew, and doing so isn't what I
intend, and it won't happen.

My issue is that there are several sites that contain very specific
information relating to trading, and excluding links to such sites just
because their mission as it were is to sell something, seems to be a
disservice to anyone browsing www.traders2traders.com for particular
knowledge. For example, subscribers to the omega list frequently ask about
circumventing the security block necessary to run TS4. Although there is a
link at www.traders2traders.com, one has to email a vendor for a workaround.
Another example, accessing data from various sources and parsing it to
suitable formats. There are links to www.traders-soft.com,
www.pinnacledata.com, and some others. Given that the topic of data occurs
just about every day on the Omega List, TS users probably find these links
helpful at times.

There won't be any ads at www.traders2traders.com trying to sell anything
except for "classified ads" and "e-auctions" by traders, for traders. For
example, it seems appropriate that anyone offering a copy of TS or a trader
wanting to sell books relating to trading that he or she has read, ought to
be able to advertise them at www.traders2traders.com. The spirit of the site
is for traders to post and link info that is helpful to other traders. It
certainly isn't a venue for me or anyone else to generate revenue by
providing an advertising medium. As the site is driven by it's visitors and
contributors, I'm very receptive to any suggestions to make it a better
resource. If there are a number of objections to any degree of
commercialism, then that's what the site will be. I may even put a voting
forum on the site :).

Colin,

In a nutshell IMHO, it is NOT a good idea, for the
following reasons:

1. The reasons you gave for attracting folks on this
list to participate in building up the site is to
enable us have a site from which we can share, not
where we are going to be exposed to commercials.

2. Contributors of data, literature, codes, e.t.c. did
it to encourage others cut down on their needs or
learning curves, not to serve as the back on which
commercial interests will ride.

3. Once you allow commercials, you have to agree to
some conditions, because they will end up paying you,
whether for good or bad. To that extent, there is no
way you can control how far it will go.

4. Commercials can be very distracting, and sometimes
border on the ridiculous. Some of them even serve as
hidden links to porn sites that open other browser
windows without being invited to, for instance, and
you really can't control that, can you?

5. If I want commercials related to trading, I have
zillion+1 places to visit, not traders2traders.com

6. I do not see the benefit commercial elements will
serve here. Instead, open another site for that
purpose, if necessary mixed with stuff on trading, and
let such a site fly on it's own.

7. Personally I'll be very disgusted as soon as you
allow commercials. I will still patronize the place
because some of the stuff there are unique, but only
until I can find alternatives; and I can assure you,
such alternatives will spring up.

8. Your idea of allowing commercials here has the
potential of turning off some contributors to other
share ideas that may be muted in the future. At least,
it is capable nof making some people suspicious of the
ultimate motive.

Personally, I just don't like changing the premises or
rules in the middle of a game. Meanwhile, thanks a
great deal, Colin, for putting together and hosting
traders2traders.com, it's been tremendously useful!

Regards,

Ola.

I frequently receive requests to allow a link to a
commercial site. Until
now, such links have been denied as
www.traders2traders.com is a
not-for-profit site. However, on some occasions links
to certain sites would
be helpful as I often read of subscribers to the omega
list looking for such
info.

On reflection, it seems more practical to allow links
and submissions that
are commercial in nature on a case by case basis where
the content is
harmonious with the spirit of www.traders2traders.com
<http://www.traders2traders.com> . If anyone strongly
objects please email
your concerns. The Privacy Statement now reads as
follows:

"Although this website is a not-for-profit site, links
to other sites or
submissions that are relevant to trading that maybe
construed as an
advertisement are allowed if placed by active
subscribers to topic-relevant
email lists and "the keepers" of the site consider the
information contained
therein helpful in the general spirit of the site.
Within this context
"classified advertisements" for or "auctions" of
services and products are
also allowed. To avoid the possibility of advertisers
tracking you, it is
suggested that you visit this site directly by
browsing to HYPERLINK
"http://www.traderswww.traders2traders.com
<http://www.traders2traders.com>
."
