Malcolm,

Welcome to the list. I see you couldn't stand to be away from your
love/hate relationship with us <g>.

I am hopefully going to put an end to this issue of "5-2+1=2" once and
for all. You brought this issue up several years ago when the version
you were using was a MetaStock for DOS version. In that program, we
DEFINED the calculation precedence. In the manual we stated

"MetaStock always does operations within parentheses first." In a very
large double outlined box immediately below that we wrote, "When
parentheses are not used, the precedence is undefined (in Italics).
Therefore, you should always use parentheses to control the precedence
of operations."

So, using your example, 5-2+1=2 is correct if I add 1+ 2 and subtract
that sum (3) from 5. However, if I use parentheses (5-2)+1, I'll get 4
like you want. This is what we have told you for years, you just refuse
to accept that a "definition" is a definition. We defined the use of
parentheses several different times and repeatedly explained this to you
and referred you to the manual. Thousands of other customers have
understood this.

The release of our Windows program (5.0) took us in a new direction. We
"defined" the precedence again. (We used normal math precedence)

This time, we stated " MetaStock always does operations within the
innermost parentheses first. When parenthesis are not used, the
precedence is as follows: negative values,*,/,+,-,<>,<=,>=,=,<>,AND,OR.
The expression "H+L/2" (without parenthesis) would be calculated by
MetaStock as "L/2" plus "H," since division has a higher precedence.
This would result in a much different value than "(H+L)/2."

Please Malcolm, let go of this issue and get back to making quality
trading decisions.
