Make sure the retrace frequency is as high as allowed by the monitor.  Also,
make sure the monitor is not interlacing the video.  Interlacing can cause a
flicker.  These two are the main cause of the eye strain as well as not
looking around to give your eyes a variety of distances to focus on.  As far
as the static on the cordless,  the higher resolution usually has a higher
frequency that could be a harmonic of the cordless.    The other option may
have to do with the routing of the phone cord.  Those are the places I would
look first.
