Re: Upgrade from P3 to P4

Jerry,

I don't know if there is any advantage derived from Hyperthreading for
TS2000i . TS2000i is a 32-bit program but TS4 is a 16-bit program which was
written for Windows 3.1x and monitors the serial port in a constant loop
which will "drag-down" any single processor. So, in this case, either
running a dual processor setup or a processor with Hyperthread capability is
extremely beneficial. The simple explanation is that you can allow TS4 to
"hog" one processor but the other is available for doing other things.

So, to answer your question, I would not switch to XP over W2000 when
running TS2000i.

Tony,

The point here for running TS4 is that HT will allow running on one
processor while leaving the other free for other tasks. So, if DDR400
memory is not used, some performance will be lost but you still will have HT
capability which IMO is more important to running TS4.
