Actually I don't you're making any of that up Tim...been there done that.
The names were different but the scenario the same.

Back to the question at hand, I've had DSL through SWBell and cable through
Time Warner for quite some time.  I have found them both to be very reliable
with a very slight edge to DSL, but cable has considerably more bandwidth
most of the time (which is irrelevant for collecting data/placing orders).

These things vary a lot between companies and from city to city and PC to
PC.  If possible try them both and then pick the one that performed the
best.  Or keep them both like I do and use one as the primary and one as the
secondary.  Also, make sure you have Windows setup properly for broadband -
the default settings are incorrect.  Websites like www.speedguide.net have
patches for both cable and DSL.
