RE: [Metastockusers] User Manual Vs Group Posting

Well said.

I wonder how many newbies are here for the love of trading vs how many are
just victims of a sales hype leading them to believe that all they have to
do is plot a couple of (preferably fancy) indicators on a chart and voila!
the money will just come in by the truckload!

Another perspective - this is the way I approach this.

I never post a question on this (or any other) forum until I have researched
it as thoroughly as I can and have come to a dead end. I do this for several
reasons, many of them selfish.
- first, I have likely learned something (even if its not the exact answer
I'm looking for) just by doing the basic research myself first. A
query-based search is a good way to get to know your basic research
materials.
- secondly, I am more likely to properly understand the answer if I have
done my homework. It's frustrating to me (and no doubt for the provider of
the answer) to receive an answer I don't "get". As I also make it a rule not
to use any indicator or formula that I don't fully understand, the answer
may be useless to me if I haven't done the work.
- thirdly, I assume that the people who contribute to this and other groups
have limited time and energy. I can use up this resource with questions that
I could have answered myself with a bit of work, or I can use them as a last
resource when I can go no further. I feel I'm more likely to get answers to
difficult questions if I haven't used up the group's patience with asking
questions I clearly could have found answers to elsewhere. Put another way,
it doesn't seem right to me to ask other people to do the work I'm not
willing to put in myself.

Everyone is different. But this is what works for me.

Hemant,

My only comment can be that you have a VERY WRONG point of view in the
purpose of existence of user groups....IT'S NOT for helping you being LAZY.
The groups were created in order to help users to exchange views and help
them overcome problems that can NOT be solved with the standard mthods and
the contents of the manual. To cut a long story short: R. T. F. M. (as my
teachers used to say to me, when I had very basic questions;-) I believe
this is clear enough. P.

	Dusant,

Kindly read this serious message which describes superiority of
group posting compared to User Manual.

Purpose of Group :- To help novice / amateur members like me. Thus
members join the group for getting guidance & help. By posting, members are
getting various good solutions advice from different sources unlike one
solution mentioned in user manual. Even sometime user manual is silent to
some of novice member queries. Beside most members who are having busy
schedule do not have time to read user manual so they post to group and get
fast & reliable advice which is great & aim of group.

In future also like me there will be lots of novice metastock user
who will be posting queries who may have read user manual but would be
prefering group posting to get help & guidance due to reasons mentioned
above and othe reasons. Please do not act as Watch Dog & de-motivate the
novice members. Let them learn and grow.

Group members view are welcomed on this debate.

	Thanks

		Hemant,

I seriously think you need to sit down and read the user
manual, or the online help.

I have been noticing that all the posts are queries from you
which are all very basic, and contained in the manual.
