Nobody is forced to use Linux as he/she likes Windows or any other system e.g. 
Mac.

However, Linux is developing very fast any many distributions are as user 
friendly as XP is (examples: suse, fedora, (k)ubuntu). Your e-mail still 
considers Linux as a server system only that is true for many years now. But 
this days Linux (and bundled applications) is also a good choice for a 
desktop I believe. As I said I've worked on my linux desktop for last 6-7 
years and as you know I'm not a programmer but work in asset management 
business.

Conclusion: an operating system you use is your choice
