Re: Satelliet internet

Phil,

I have DirectPc one-way system. It is fairly reliable, but is prone to
outages with stormy weather (I live in Sourthern Florida).

I had two-way satellite from Pegasus Express, which I returned due to it's
lack of reliability for me.

Something that was a surprise to me was that a 56K modum was able to receive
real-time data as fast as my two-way satellite (when it was working). The
download initially of data for charts is clearly improved by reception by
satellite versus a 56K modem. But once the chart is loaded, the "upkeep"
on real-time data is the same with a 56 K modem as with satellite. I
conducted this test of download speed while on the phone with a fellow who
had a cable modem, and our receipts of data (after the charts were first
loaded) was the same when I was using only the 56K modem and he was using
his cable modem.

When cable modem or DSL comes to my area, I will switch from satellite,
since I think either of those will be more consistent.
