Swing chart / Developer's kit

Hello list,
 

I am trying to plot swing charts in Metastock. 
The swing chart is essentially straight 
lines joining the various peaks and troughs - a bit similar to the zig-zag 
function in Metastock except that in this case the straight lines join the 
highest high to the lowest low for that section of the swing. I cannot do 
this using the standard Metastock formula for indicator 
builder as I need to skip days which are not peaks or trough. In the 
standard Metastock formula, each day requires a value to be plotted.  I 
have been told that the only way to do what I want to do is via the 
Metastock Developer's kit.
 
My questions:
 
1.    Is what I am told correct - 
i.e. I have to go down the Developer's kit route ?
2.    Has anyone done something 
similar - esp. the skipping of data till certain criteria is met? Any suggestion 
on how this
       might be done 
would be much appreciated.
3.    Is there any other alternative 
in achieving what I want to do - eg. Metalib ?
 
Please note that on the long run, I would like to 
do some research using data from the swing chart as well as other data. Hence I 
think I will 
probably need to have a separate database for this. 
Hence would the read only version of the Developer's kit be 
suitable.
