There is another significant difference between the GIF and JPG
formats.  GIF is a loss-less compression format while JPG introduces
distortions into the image.

At higher JPG compression settings bigger distortions are introduced. 
For photographic images the distortion is usually acceptable.  However
for MS charts, high compression JPGs can easily obscure the exact
point at which an indicator crosses a signal line.  Yet another reason
to use the GIF format for MS Charts whenever possible.
