I am gradually getting set up to trade; having spent a couple of years
reading and setting up things (eg PC etc).

The question arises who should I use as broker?

I would prefer to trade in the UK as I live here and get UK data from
Prestel - any suggestions (preferably electronic acceptance of orders).

However from the metastock list I get the impression that the US market
may be easier to trade electronically.

Having looked around on the net I have been particularly attracted by:
E*Trade
ebroker
www.rapidtrade.com

I would appreciate any opinions.

Furthermore I would like advice on where to get US data from.

I am impressed by the various web sites offering free prices but would
ideally like to download historical data for processing by MS4W for
explorations.

I would also like specific advice on StockVue/quotecom and whether this
product includes historical data and whether it can be transferred into
MS4W.

In the UK we have to pay for local calls (plus I am always short of
time) therefore I would ideally like an Internet site from which I might
download data via a Java applelet on a daily basis into MS format
(ideally the whole market in one go - ie not have to download every
security separately).

One thought I have had is to upgrade to version 6.0 and use the CD data
but I am not sure how much the cost of subscription to keep the data
upto data would be.

(Yuk - just received an email from Schwab saying they will charge $100
per year to cover phone calls as I am a non-US customer. Last year they
bought Sharelink - the UK's biggest stockbroker (eg 10% of all equity
options trades on occassions))
