Sean:

I run TradeStation on a Win98SE machine also.  I make sure the computer does not have any nonessential programs open or running.  To check on this, I press Ctrl-Alt-Delete together once.  A "Close Program" window will pop up.  I see only Explorer, Systray and the TradeStation programs open.  Nothing else.  You may want to try highlighting those programs in this window that you don't recognize, and press the End Task button below.  That should close the programs and remove them from ram memory and free up the resources.  Hopefully that will solve your problem.  If you removed any program you still need, just reboot the computer and they will show up on the list again.

Another suggestion about getting rid of all the other junk programs in your computer is to buy a new hard disk (about $80 now).  Format and install it as the C drive (master) in the computer.  Load only the programs you want.  You can then hookup the old hard disk back to the computer.  Win98 should recognize it now as a D drive (slave) if you set the pins in the hard disk properly.  So you can still call up some programs or files there if you still want them.  And copy the TradeStation server data files from the old drive to the appropriate directory in the new C drive.

Another advantage of having a D drive is, you can "backup" files from the C drive into the D drive by simply highlight and copy.

Good luck,
Bill W

Ive done just about everything everyone here has suggested to speed up my PC. Is it possible it could simply be because I am on a dialup connection? During the day when quotes are coming in my cpu usage stays at 100% all day and after a while, my chart slows down considerably. At night when there isnt much data coming in my cpu usage is around 20%. Dialup is fine for my current style of trading.....1 to 3 trades a day with a broker who has phone support. This is all i can think of, my pc runs fine in every possible way, it just cant seem to process the quotes.

Click on start| Program | accessories | System Tools | System info| Software Environment | Start up program | tools | System Configuration | then click on the tab that says Start Up.  Now uncheck every program that you are not using. The only ones that I have checked are Tool Bar Display, Scan Registry and System tray.
