Hello Kent,

Kent, chill out. I said "domestic" team, not economic. And what's
more I'm on your side. I want George to win and keep winning. I voted
for him, will again, gave him money. But he isn't perfect, esp in some
of his senior staff choices. And I'll bet you a dollar he and his
genius Rove will replace O'Neill and/or Lindsay in the next 6 months.

I see no evidence that O'Neill and Lindsay had any impact on the tax
cut package. Some members of the Congress had and have far more
credibility and influence on that issue.

And I do believe that what you call style matters. I didn't use that
word. Superficiality is of course not a qualification. I said and
mean something more substantial. Impact, credibility, commanding
attention, grasp of issues and the ability to articulate them. Many of
these guys are weak--and they would be on the radio as well :)

Best regards,
 Jim Johnson mailto:jejohn@xxxxxxxxxxx

KR> Hello Kent,

KR> Specifics are tough to come by in these cases. Most of these guys and

KR> Nothing said, just cheerleading and obfuscation. The other top
KR> ecomomist (can't remember his name) is the same.

KR> O'Neill's claim to fame is setting safety records at Alcoa. whoopie!
KR> I didn't like Ruben's politics but at least he had a point of view
KR> that was understandable and commanded attention and respect. The
KR> majority of the audience couldn't care less what O'Neill has to
KR> say--except perhaps to be entertained by some gaff.

KR> Tommy Thompson has shown himself to be misplaced. He flubbed the
KR> antrax scare at the start and never recovered. No one looks to him as
KR> source of knowledge, leadership on those issues. I have heard no
KR> coherent approach, guiding priciples, critique of the welfare, health
KR> care, public health strategy of the administration.

KR> Ridge is a no-show as head of domestic security. He has been a figure
KR> head at best. Again no real plan, guiding priciples, effective
KR> retoric from a bully pulpit etc.
