Brian,

It is actually a pretty good way to day trade.  The
key like you said is to know when to go long, sell or
short sell.

Linda Bradford Raschke wrote some methods on how to
use a ROC(?) oscillator to help with the decisions.

Murray Ruggerio actually has done research on it also.
He actually has a S&P system that follows the rules.
