Go to the CBOE web site.  http://www.cboe.com.

Look at the index. There will be some information on the vix.  If you
really want to get into the vix.  Ask for thier Risk Management Series
#3, I believe.. This gets deeply into the definition of the VIX and the
various pearls to be found there..
