Enoying your VIX charts. Very interesting.  I know little or nothing about
VIX.  Have you found the -1.618 and +1.618 std. deviation bands act in a
similar fashion to Bollinger Bands, in that a contraction in distance of
bands invariably leads to a thrust one way or the other?  The longer the
contraction lasts, and the "tighter" they get, the more explosive the move?
 If the "deviations" are contracting, do they usually provide stiffer
resistace when reached, than expanding "deviations, when reached?
