laptop / SATA HDD / Intel matrix drivers

Have been using laptops for my trading for close to 9 years now. Would not have it any other way, first one I had was a Dell 486-75DX with 20Mb or RAM and was running initially Win95 on it and later when I upgraded the HDD to 810 Mb (from 406) I went to NT 3.51. 20 floppies to load the OS! Build in UPS too. Fine with the VT PMCIA video card to driving 3 screens. Have gone to a wide screen and am loving it! When travelling it may pay to invest in one of the portable firewalls with SIF that either run of the USB port or directly go into the network connection port with some power supply from elsewhere. Pretty small too.

OK that aside, now to business.

Recently Intel has released a new matrix driver to drive the SATA hard disks. Used in a variety of environments (not only laptops). Be aware that this latest matrix driver is slowing down the hard disk performance (in my case the import in the Global Server is taking about 6 times as long). So if you are running XP it is better to stick to the previous one if it is not giving any problems.
