Try Sabayon Linux 3.4. It has best and ready to go windows emulation - Wine,
Also Virtual box. So if it doesn't work with Wine, it will work with virtual box for sure: all free.
64 bit Virtual box still has issues on all distros. Only Sabayon worked out 64 bit. If you running 32 bit- you shoud have no problems

I am in a process of migrating to Linux/windows emulators too. It's a bit early, yet possible for non geeks.
I think by the end of the year Linux will become a perfectly redundant 64bit cross platform. I've skipped XP using W2K and W2003 and skipping Vista too by migrating to linux 64bit. Sabayon is a champ in features. I believe Suse and Fedora will follow by next year.

Hardware wise: best hard for Linux is made by Asus and Nvidia. I am running Asus M2N NF59 board and Gigabyte V cards Geforce8600 silent pipe2 quad with 2x athlon - works great including Beryl.
It takes some time to work multimonitor setup and emulators though. I can predict that by the end of the year first wave of mass migration to linux will be registered. It's already almost as easy as windows, but development speed is far greater then Microsoft's. So linux is definetely the future development platform with everything going open source, including trading and financial wares.
