Can anyone suggest/recommend a good application to partition my hard
drive without trashing existing data? Something simple - I don't need
dual boot or anything, just another partition. Running Win XP.

If it's NTFS (XP version, i.e. 1 of 3 versions), it could be tricky.

For free, there might be 'GNU parted', but I have never used it on
NTFS, only VFAT32. There is a popular commerical product, Partition
Magic ~$50, that is commonly recommended, but I haven't used it since
Win98b. For $50, you could buy another drive instead.
