Re: 1 minute bars lag behind automic clock

Hi Mike,

I guess if you only have 2 servers to choose from there isn't likely to
be much of a problem with the ticks coming in late. In Qcharts I just
press Ctrl+alt+N and a list of servers comes up and I double click. You
can get a ping program to determine which one is best. However the delay
exists at times even if the pings are good.

As far as the usefulness of the atomic clock goes, this is what I have
found and the Qcharts people complain constantly about it to. I use a
downloaded atomic clock program called Dimension 4. It is really good
and is able to set your PC clock very accurately (I think it is 4
decimal places within a second) and do this resetting of the PC clock
every 15 seconds if you wish. I run a clock program that shows me the
HHs MMs and seconds on the screen. I place it right above and almost
touching the Qcharts display of the price trade times which also shows
seconds. Sometimes delays in the charting program are not important if
the market stalls in a narrow 3 to 4 minute channel at the top or
bottom. In this case a 10 second delay is not a big deal (however since
I have seen up to a one minute delay what I am about to point out makes
it a really big deal because you don't know if it has shifted from 10
seconds delay to 1 minute delay unless you are constantly comparing the
tick times to the atomic clock time). What I find often happens is the
market in fact tops/bottoms exactly at my target entry/exit price then
backs off and it provides no more than a 5 to 10 second window to get
that target price. By the time the chart reports this price in a 1
minute bar that is widening as the prices move, that price is gone by as
much as 1 to 3 points (it happened yesterday on the NQ in the
afternoon). What I end up doing is "as my price is being approached" I
watch the execution rather than the chart. In other words I use the
chart for setup and approach to trigger but I use the execution for
trigger. It isn't that difficult for entry. However for hold and exit it
gets more difficult because one has things to do while in the position
and I find it is impossible to watch both of then when I am applying
lines etc. to the chart. Not only that if prices move hard then come
back in the chart price and the execution price are the same and you do
not even know the bar should be really wide to reflext that hard move
which occured within the minute. I don't know if it is possible for
TradeStation to show inside bid/asked from the same internet
route/source but maybe the execution last trade would be the same source
as what is building the chart. If they are the same I would think the
automic clock becomes even more important. It all boils down to a
problem which can create excessive slippage on some trades meaning
getting out of a scratch with a $20 loss instead of a $20 proft. Of
course this slippage will be occuring on both sides of the move you are
trying for.
