Speaking of BIOS, there is a company http://www.biosworld.com that sells
bios chips with the most recent revisions for $29.95. Bios have been
flashable for quite a few years, but just suppose the flashing doesn't work
or the operater isn't into attempting such a thing. I did it on two
machines for year 2000 compatibility but now I need to upgrade the bios on
my Tyan S1834 Tiger 133 dual. There is too much at risk to not have a
backup bios chip incase something goes wrong. The flashing software makes a
copy of the existing bios before flashing, but still, having a backup bios
chip is cheap security for getting the machine up again. Soon after the
Tyan S1834 came out two upgrades were needed for things like AGP problems,
mouse and usb port problems. This Tyan board is no longer available, but
I've had good luck with running two slot 1 PIII 600's in it. It is also
spec'd at running two PIII's 1gig 100fsb or 933mhz 133fsb. Anyone know
where I can get the 933's cheap?

One question that comes up when using the various disk imaging or mirroring
or backups is the password protection for ELA/ELS systems and indicators.
Do the passwords still work on the imaged drive if it is made the bootable
drive?

thanks,
bobr
