The baby bells win, as predicted. PacBell fought hard to control the DSL
market, but was forced to open it. In the end it didn't matter. I've had
their DSL since the time they offered it and it's good overall. However,
there were a number of times the service was practically unusable. I don't
quite understand how the DSL circuit works, but I know I have several more
DSL neighbors with an appetite for data. There was a period when the
service was practically unusable during lunchtime and mid afternoon,
perhaps reflecting the lunch break, and the flood of teenagers racing home
from school to download their porno and music.
