Re: Speaking of volatility: Article Clarifications

This is like watching Geraldo Investigative Reports where on national
television they open the ancient sealed pyramid and find, oh my gosh,
unbelievable, very very very old sand. (:-o)

Rodgers and Satchell are not traders, they are academics. They do not think in
terms of "indicators." Hence, you will not find any document references such as
"indicator" or even, heaven forbid, "money." As far as they are concerned we
don't even exist. We are just the mindless components of a complex state
machine whose only purpose is to generate outputs used as inputs to ensure
tenure.

I'm sorry I no longer have the article to give you the exact references. When I
realized the difference between an analyst and a trader, I threw out every baby
in the Rocky Mountains along with the bathwater. But the title was something
like, "Using Open, High, Low and Close Data to Determine Volatility." There
were three papers concerning this in different journals. They may not be web
published. I used a University (read "Ivory Tower" here) business library.

I also spoke/emailed both of them and the formulas that I have are based on a
statistical package module (Maple? or some Canadian Syrup tree-like name) that
one of them very kindly (Satchell I believe in England) sent me. I then
cleverly pretended to be a student (which I am, but of Buddhism, not business,
but both start with a "B" and they never asked so...) I got a 30 day free trial
of the statisical package. I then ran it and proceeded to learn the package's
programming language to run the module and take it apart in order to code it in
EL. All of this because the math in the articles was way over my head (read "in
Zeus-like splendor to my ant-like scurrying" here). I was also running a
software company to write option analysis software (read "completely insane"
here.)

I hope this extra info helps. And should you find very very very old sand, it
has many uses. Like holding up incense sticks on a shrine!

I looked in there and he speaks about volatility(and writes) frequently.
Ididn't see anything on an indicator. I checked each hit.
