TW doesn't use DDE. It uses the UMDS direct API. My installation wouldn't
connect to UMDS 2.0 for some reason. I worked with Steve Yates, the TW
programmer, over several phone calls and he compiled a special version of
the UMDS connection DLL to log information about the connection, but UMDS
was not giving him enough information about why it wasn't connecting for him
to figure out what the problem was. That coupled with the fact that I
didn't have much data in my UMDS to begin with limited it's utility. I'm
letting my UMDS 2.0 collect data from DTN sat and waiting on UMDS 3.0
(hopefully it will come with a data conversion utility!) and will try again
then.

TW also works with Quote.com which I don't have but am considering for use
in conjunction with a Quote.com downloader (http://www.mechtrading.com/)
just so I can keep my tick data up to date. With the limited amount of
ticks coming across Signal Cable into my TS4 and the fact that it will
probably be phased out before long, I've got to set myself up for a longer
term solution. UMDS 2.0 is worse than TS2k for data import/export because
it doesn't even have data import! Kent Gryzich of UMDS fame says that this
has been a major complaint that he's received so UMDS 3.0 will allegedly
have import/export.

Didn't Traderware get stalled for lack of a data server and an accurate,
reliable datafeed? The proposed UMDS/UsDDE had the 1 second update
limitation. The consequences were that symbols with tick rates faster than
one second would have tick loss in the client application. UMDS by itself
appears to do a grand job at collecting data on xx,xxx symbols, but getting
it to the client application without tick loss is the problem. Would a
custom API be the solution?
