"A worry is what will happen in July when the markets begin to replace
fractions with decimal places.  An industry study predicts that if penny
increments replace the current sixteenths of a dollar (6.25 cents), quote
traffic in NYSE-listed stocks would soar 125%, in Nasdaq stocks 211%, and in
options, where rising competition compounds the increase, more than tenfold.
The increases would be far smaller with five-cent increments."

The article finishes by saying that the SEC is weighing whether to instruct
the markets to quote prices in nickel-increments with smaller increments to
follow.
