I'm a firm believer in dedicated machines.

With TS4, I have 12-18 workspaces open, each one with the *maximum* number
of charts, many with the maximum # of bars, in 2-8 markets.

I have lots of dll clls, but NOT to ASCII files (much too slow, in my
experience).

Yep - lots of these too..

Don't have lots of these, but I do pass *lots* of info, via dll's, to
other computers for additional processing.

Do much crunching? - here's where you need the power. How do you get 40k
bars, perchance?

Perhaps - I've been doing the above for some time on an old PII/250! Works
well in real time.

The only place where I want more power is in long crunches - in these, I
would like at least a Cray :-). Some of the crunches I would like to do
have estimated run times of more than 20 *days*. I don't run these, of
course, and even an Athlon 750 will not hack it for those very data
intensive calcs. When the Athlon 24,000 comes out, I might consider it.
(Anyone know how I might get some computer time between atomic test
simulations :-).

With TS2k, my PII/450 seems a bit strained, even with much less to do.
But that's another story...
