With all due respect to those whose experience with TS or Windows or
hardware has been unpleasant, I have been happily using TS2k (BMI/cable)
for three months on Windows 98 while simultaneously surfing the net,
managing e-mail and running other programs. My upgrade was simple and
uneventful. In my testing, I could not detect any speed difference using
TS4 on Windows 95.

I guess I'm lucky. I daytrade using only one workspace, with three
charts, 9 subcharts, 16 indicators and two days of S&P tick data.

Four years ago I decided to stop programming systems and begin to learn
to trade. Part of my business plan involved deciding to only use TS
features that worked simply and reliably. Since most of my work utilizes
sound and color, I prefer TS2k's flexibility and I've cut the number of
indicators I used under TS4 by over 50%. I've also programmed visual
effects that are difficult or impossible under TS4.

The biggest stumbling block I have for TS2k is the incorrect way it
calculates upticks and downticks. I submitted a bug report, and after
several exchanges including clear documentation of the problem, the tech
rep told me the error was "hard-coded" and couldn't be changed, though
he would put my request on the wish-list. (!) I dropped the matter
because I had a get-around.

Another part of my business decision, though not strictly related to TS,
involved deciding to accept the reality of dirty data and missing ticks,
and constructing a trading plan that takes it into account, both
historically and in real-time. Ideally, TS/BMI would handle exchange
tick corrections, but I live in the real world.

Someday I would like to experiment with more sophisticated analytical
tools, but right now I think it would interfere with my learning how to
trade. However, if a VB-aware trading platform were available and
shipping, I would experiment with some alternate visual presentations of
the data that are presently impossible with TS.

But until such tools are available, I still need to answer "Where's my
next trade coming from?"
