If you want to learn Elliott you have to work your way through the books and
think your way through lots of charts. No software is going to do it for
you. I like the fact that it forces you to have several alternatives to what
prices may be doing next, to assign probabilities to them and to know when
you're wrong. Those are useful disciplines whatever form of analysis you are
doing. I see no reason to doubt that cyclicality appears in widely traded
securities prices, or that prices have a fractal nature. Just view Elliott
as the beginning of the story, not the end, and it will help you.

Hi Leon,

I tend to agree with Jose. I worked with a "highly regarded" Elliot Wave
technician for years who showed (including his clients) very little result
for the effort. It was almost a cult though so they stuck with him. On the
other hand, anything that works for you, and helps you understand what is
going on is something you should keep and use. I am a firm believer in
technical analysis, but have my doubts about this venue. Some of the jargon
actually used to make my stomach tie in knots. I don't like jargon in
anything. It is usually a method of making something sound more magical or
important than it really is.

Best,

Larry Carhartt

My advice would be to avoid wasting time with any T/A technique that
utilizes hindsight (e.g. ZigZag) to determine peaks/troughs, or projects any
probabilities based on these ever-shifting plots.
