I think there is a software called RTQ 
downloader, which has forex being downloaded from a free source.
Do not know more details.

  By saying that there are paid software to export data via DDE, you are 
  referring to Metaserver, right?  And then I believe you have to pay 
  approx $40 from a futures dealer to get a DDE feed right?  ANything else 
  that's required?

    You would need to copy and paste the data at 
    regular intervals. This is the free solution. There are paid services too, 
    and paid software which use free services to export data into Metastock by
