Trust me, you are not alone in being unhappy
with this change. At the same time, we have had customers asking us for
many years now to enable them to run Explorations and System Tests without
having to download the data. This is now a feature in MetaStock version
8.0. In the developmental changes, we were not able to keep the manner in
which securities are added to be included in a Test or Exploration. So, we
gained functionality and lost the ability to add your folders or lists from the
same view that you have been using.
The Organizer button is a tool designed to allow you
to import and export MetaStock formulae. It will not help you in adding
securities to your Exploration. I know that the first time, it will really
not be fun but you will only have to do it once. You will have to go
through the tedious task of Add Securities | Tools | Select All, Add Securities
| Tools | Select All until all securities have been added from all
folders. If you had your data in the bigger file structure, it wouldn't be
so bad. I wish there was something I could do to make this task quicker
but I cannot. Just be sure to save the list when you are done and you
won't have to do this again.

most discouraging. So much so that I now wish I had not upgraded. I spent money
and, at this point, all I did was create many hours of work for myself. I
believe MetaStock (and to be fair, all sellers, yes, buyer beware) should advise
the bad news of an update along with the good.
One of the MS boards said "Under EXPLORER, use
the “ORGANIZER” button. [then you can export from the older version to the
newer version.]

go through the cumbersome task of creating a new one. If you would follow
the steps for adding securities, you can save your list once you have gone to
each individual local data folder and added all of the securities from each
folder. Yes...this means you will have to repeat this 50 or so times to
get all of your folders added. Just be sure to save the list once it is
complete so that you may use it with future Explorations.

Thank you Tena. You have always been very helpful.
1. From 7.2, I have one scan that checks
out all North American common, about 11000 symbols. Coming from 7.2, I have 8
data folders for my US common stocks. Following your instructions I added all
the symbols from the first folder quite quickly. The process started to slow
down. By the time I got to the 8th folder for T to Z it took over 3 minutes to
add those symbols. What is that about? I stopped, but, can I carry on and add
the rest of the NA symbols?
2. With your advice, I am now at least operational,
but, you did not answer my question. In 7.2, I would select securities for
exploration from previously created lists. How do I load those lists for
exploration in 8.0? The 'data for scanning group' I described in 1
above is one of about 50 different lists that it took me many many many
hours to create, equity sectors, Canadian mutual funds by fundco and type. How
do I access these lists?

To add securities, you will need to click on
the Add Securities button. This will bring up what looks like the Open
dialog. You will want to click on Local Data. You will then need to
open the desired folder and add the securities (tools | select all if you
wish). If you have multiple folders, you will have to repeat this process
until all securities are added. You can then click the Save button if you
would like which will save all of these stocks in a folder under Favorites that
you can then use for subsequent Explorations. This will make it easier for
you to add them next time.
