[Metastockusers] Re: anybody using two processors?

If you want to run two copies of metastock at the same time you have
to partition your hard drive and run two copies of your OS. When you
run two copies of MS simultaneously, they both want to write to the
same temp files and the same registry and if that happens in the same
nanosecond you've got a problem. Eventually your system will crash,
and it maybe a hard crash. If you partition the hard drive you don't
have to worry about the processors as long as you can boot two OS's
at once. Some systems can handle that and some can't. I use Win 2000
for exactly that reason.

I ran two copies of MS when I first got it. I ran one EOD and one
intraday. I was able to keep those two from killing each other but
two copies of intraday would have blown my system up. As it was, I
had to edit the registry periodically.

MS looks for other copies of MS before it boots, so that's another
issue.

Rather than run two copies of MS at the same time, I have multiple
monitors and I run MS and Active Trader Pro at the same time. I keep
large groups of watchlist stocks on ATP. I scan them using simple
indicators like MAs and then when I find stocks I'm interested in I
open them in MS with my system. ATP tracks my trades and MS keeps my
TA current.

I have a 2 mips pipeline and sometimes that's not fast enough to keep
up with MS, ATP and my ECNs. When Esignal hicups the system can get
out of balance really quickly.
