Connors has something like ten VIX indicators. CVR 1-10. None of them
require a formula as far as I know. You simply plot them on a chart.
For $80 you can buy his book which shows you how to plot each one.
Lately I don't think they've been working too well but I don't watch
them. A more accurate use of the VIX is to get the VIX for individual
stocks and plot it against it's 1 year statistical average. It's mean
regressive so the daily VIX will over shoot then move back toward
it's 1 year average.
Maridome has the individual stock VIXs for a hundred or so stocks for
about $60 a month. It's an MS plugin. I update those every night.
