RE: [Metastockusers] Sell exactly 3 days after buying a stock

Pierre,

It somewhat appears that another way may work, with MetaStock version 8 ---
Using the Enhanced System Tester, in the Sell Order box, Strategic Delay,
for selling 3 days after buying, I put in 2 Days in the little input box.
For the Sell Formula, I use Low <= High.

When I plot results on chart, it usually works that the sale takes place
three days after the buy. (However, sometimes I see there are four or five
days between buy and sell, and I'm not sure just why that happens.)

If you happen to have MetaStock version 8, would you please tell me where to
place the inactivity stop? Would it be in the Sell Order tab, or the Stops
tab? If the later, would I just put 99% in the Minimum Change box, and 3 in
the Periods?

Thanks again for your help.

Nicholas

Nicholas,

I think that the use of inactivity stop is an easy way to close your
position after 3 days.

If you use Barssince to exit from an entry condition like, for example, the
CLOSE is greater than the simple 200 days moving average, and you have :

Barssince(C>mov(C,200,s) = 3

...to exit after 3 days.

If after 1 or 2 days, the Close is under the SMA, the count with Barssince
return to zero and it's only after the CLOSE will be greater than the SMA
that the function Barssince will start to count again, so the position can
be closed after 5, 20 or maybe 179 days later...
