By purchasing oil from the middle east we are financing their attacks on our
people. We must develop power that does not require oil from the middle
ease.
Lets start a Manhattan like project to rid us of dependence on the middle
east for oil ( for those of you to young to know the project to develop
the atomic bomb was called the Manhattan project . A top secret project with
the very top priority.

So there will be more nuclear power plants for the terrorists to
target? How about distributed solar, wave, and wind power
generation. That would, by its very distributed nature, be impervious to
the kind of attack we saw on Black Tuesday. I sincerely hope that
commercial flight paths will be routed far enough away from existing
nuclear power plants to give the newly installed (someone did install them
by now, right?) anti-aircraft missiles around existing nuclear power plants
enough time to take out any incoming hijacked airliners before they can do
any damage.

Speaking of distributed vs centralized models.... It would be a mistake to
rebuild the WTC so that a single event could take out so much of the
essential infrastructure of the US economy. It is no longer necessary to
have centralized information systems or trading floors and it has now been
demonstrated that they are insecure. -uf
