[amibroker] Re: erratic eSignal backfill

This is probabaly not relevant but since we are on the subject of the
eS/AB plugin:

- at the time I experienced eS download lockup I was using eS latest
version 10.1/Premier subscription
- since then I have changed to data only subscription (cheaper) where
I am subscribed to use eS data with NinjaTrader but AB also uses this
sub
- since I changed I haven't tried to backfill more than 200 symbols
but I expect to get the same outcome if and when I do
- the downloadable data manager for data only access is out of date
at the AB site .... eS are a couple of versions ahead

Re eS symbol limits:

There is some logic lacking somewhere on this subject.

- I don't understand how or why eS try to manage their limits as they
do
- I haven't asked them about it, or tried to find answers at their
forums ... doubt if they will be too forthcoming ... for sure they
try to discourage 'bulk' downloading to protect their server load

In my case:

- I have considered the morality of my useage
- I only backfilled S&P500 once (for 'light' backtesting)
- apart from that I only follow <100 symbols on a daily basis so I
barley get my moneys worth
- presumably I can use their charts and click on as many symbols as I
want (say every symbol on the US main markets) ... one at a time ...
which equals X amount of download (bytes)fr the day.
- in the AB help manual Tomasz asks us not to abuse the symbol
switching download feature .... what is the difference if I manually
click on one symbol per time to get,say 7000 backfills (which is OK
with eS) or if the AB plugin 'clicks' on 2200 symbols for me, one at
a time, and does it quite quickly compared to my manual effort?

I have paid for this data and I am actually under utilizing it ... I
don't see why AB can't manage the download of what I am entitled to
instead of me having to click on every symbol or batch watchlists.

Also I haven't tested it to see what happens if the database no. bars
is set to less than maximum backfill for daily scanning ... for a 1
min database say you only need 1 months backfill for scanning then
the download might not lockup up so readily compared to the limit of
a six month backfill.

If I manually look at a chart for symbols, then AFAIK the data up to
that point is saved locally. ....thereafter if I select one symbol in
chart view, say the next day, then it auto appends the new data to
the data from the previous day .... but if I use explore/backfill
does it append the new data only or does it force a deep backfill and
overwrite the pre-existing data.

If the later is the case then that seems like data download overkill
to me.
