No, I don't think you have ticker bar visible. It must not be removed. 
F4 brings the focus to ticker box, so you can type the symbol. If you deleted it, it won't work.
Some people remove the ticker bar (customize the toolbar by deleting many useful stuff).

Thanks. I have seen that remark and tried it but without any result ...
Ticker Toolbar checked in Ticker Dialog Box or not, no F4 ...
I am using AB Version 5.03 on Windows XPPro ...

As Bob pointed out for the F4 to work you have to have "Ticker"
toolbar checked (active). One this tool bar is active pressing F4
takes you to ticker dialog box.
