[amibroker] Alerts - basic help needed

Please can someone answer a few basic questions on alerts:
1)do you need to run a scan every 1min, or can alerts be triggered 
using an afl which generates signals on a rolling basis like a moving 
average?
2)how can you stop alerts from being triggered for bars older than say 
30secs or more than 3 bars old.
3)Alertif looks like the best function? one of variables allows alerts 
to be ignored if older than x bars, but i can't get it to work.
