Would you mind sharing your method to connect to the DDE?
Does it allow you to keep the data that comes in beyond say 200 minute bars as the API now does?

Metatrader 3.......... will provide data through DDE  and it can be picked up by AmiBroker very easily, I have been using this as my data source for several years

Metatrader 4 does not provide data unless you are an account holder

I remember reading somewhere that forex data is available using some form of Meta trader download system. Would anyone have details of that.
