[amibroker] Questionable poll results for amibroker should be discarded!

Hello Herman,

I completely agree to your statements: Most
indicators are worthless when used alone and not in conjunction with a
sophisticated trading system that is based on the advanced programming skills -
and experience - of a programmer/trader.
That opinion was also rendered in the
famous book of Robert Prado:

Design, Testing, and
Optimization of Trading Systems
Robert
Pardo
John Wiley &
Sons
ISBN:
0-471-55446-4

First of all, any new user should tackle
the - often very difficult and tedious - task to study the library of functions
and coding techniques provided by the AFL library. However, that
will take a lot of time... and most people simply want to press a
becoming-quickly-rich radio button :-) that is impossible to code in
reality!

Tomasz is well advised - also from a
marketing standpoint - to first pursue his very long list of enhancements
to AmiBroker that has been gathered for the past 2-3 years or so. In this way,
AmiBroker will definitely have a much higher likelihood to compete to even the
most advanced programs in technical analysis that are currently on the software
market!

Also, to all of you who think that your
"poll" should relevant from a statistical point of view, simply
calculate the arithmetic mean and its associated standard deviation of
your sample, but not that ones related to the parent
population, which is substantially larger, of course. Otherwise, to put it
simply and succinctly, a physician or chemist would never release a drug based
on such a small sample poll/test :-) and release the drug into the pharmaceutics
market!

All of you who participated into the
aforementioned poll should have a lot of fun in learning native
AFL code to better program your sophisticated and advanced indicators to conceal
them from the others.

Cheers,

W.-Udo Harke, Ph.D.

P.S.: I would never
allow a marketing group to release a new product based on such a small
sample poll!

  amibroker - README
Sorry folks, but this poll is pretty SCARY! In fact i am
wetting my pants!I would much prefer to have Tomasz concentrate on
overall versatility andafl enhancements in general, i.e. work on FEATURES
THAT YOU CANNOT FINDANYWHERE ELSE AND THAT WILL BENEFIT EACH AND EVERY
USER.Face it: almost all special indicators can be implemented with a
little bitof work around, some looping, some scripts, or in the extreme
case with aDLL. The DLL-list has considerable expertise and some very
helpful people. If you really think your special indicator will make
you a lot of money thenit is worth your while to learn (remember the
word?) a few new things.Perhaps even pay (YES!) somebody to write a DLL
for you. Also, if a specialindicator is really that important to you then
you could find some otherusers and combine efforts to get the job done,
perhaps even share the costof hiring somebody for a few hours. To
have TJ sweat on that many individual indicators to have some user try
itout and to find that it after all doesn't do the job and to never look
at itagain, is a waste of time. Yes: I have been there and done
it!Let us be honest: we want those indicators to "try them out" not
because we"know" that they are going to make us rich. From the last 200
indicatorsthat you tried, how many have made you rich? Obviously not too
many...It islike looking for the HG: there is NO single million dollar
indicator.Any indicator that has less than 20 (30?) votes should be
ignored. Why?Because in an equivalent amount of time TJ could implement
general purposeAB enhancements that would benefit each and every single
user. Some of theseenhancements (like the recent looping) would allow
probably most of theindicators to be implemented by users
themselves. How many of you have tried the new looping functions? How
would you likesubroutines? Pyramiding? etc. Some of these functions would
benefit everysingle user...OK, I will not vote for any indicator:
I will vote for general purposeenhancement (should have been an item on
  the poll?).best regards,Herman-----Original

Tomasz suggested thatwe compose a list of the most desiredindicators
for dynamic parameters so hecan prioritize.  PLEASE SELECT YOUR
TOP10 FROM THIS LIST.  Note that I combinedseveral similar
indicators/functions tokeep the list at 25 which is the maximumfor a
poll.  So a combined entry(BBANDBOT & BBANDTOP, for example)
onlycounts as one indicator for the purposesof this poll :-).
