"Idle Time" usually refers to a period when you are not sending or receiving
data. It is normally used to disconnect the modem connection if idle time >
x minutes. ...like if you've been browsing the web, and decide to go to
bed and forget to disconnect your modem connection. Since some ISPs have a
maximum number of hours for "unlimited" service, or some charge by the hour,
it can be advantageous to have your modem automagically disconnect if data
transfer is idle for x period of time ;-). Some ISPs also have this
'feature' set on their side... anywhere between 15 min and two hours is
common. In any case, make it a high enough number that it won't disconnect
if you decide to go to the bathroom ;-) Although, it shouldn't be a problem
during market hours. If it is, just set the number higher, or to 'never' if
that is an option.
