Retail commissions averaged between $15 to $30 per roundturn depending on
the size of your account and number of monthly trades.

A regular, retail S&P trader could expect to see slippage on the order of
.10 to .25. Slippage was highly dependent on who you traded through, whether
or not you worked with an experienced S&P broker and, finally, whether or
not, you, as a retail trader, had floor access for trade execution. Floor
access normally required an account in the vicinity of $50K unless the
margin guys felt you had the experience to trade direct with the floor.
Obviously the clerks and filling brokers had no time to check your account
balance prior to accepting and executing a trade.
