Open Interest in Futures Contracts

I have seen very little on this topic and cannot recall any indicators
specifically for open interest.

Is it possible and/or desirable to back adjust from contract to contract to
"close the gap" like in a continuous back adjusted contract and if so how is
it done.

I am thinking that an indicator, say like an OBV,  of open interest which
could be made to oscillate around a zero line by detrending (subtracting a
moving average  from it).

Any thoughts or discussion would be appreciated
