Dear Friends,

I had used MQDOWNLOADER previously for Ordinary
Comp of Austraia Index components EOD downloading. It is comprised of 500
scrips. What I did, I am explaining it step wise:

1. Copied the symbols and security names along with
date price volume from Yahoo manually.
2. Change the date to the first
date(e.g.01-01-1970) as being required by you. don't worry for the data as any
change will be automatically rectified and updated from yahoo
server.
2.Create an CSV file with downloader options (e.g.
date, security name, symbol, open, high, low, close, volume, open
interest).
3. Now convert it in to METASTOCK format using
downloader.
4.Now use MQDOWNLOADER which will automatiacally
findout the metastock files then update it on daily basis.
5. You can use MQDOWNLOADER just 30 min after
closing of indian market to download the prices.

Lets find out the result by urself. And if you find
the csv file of symbols from any other friend then u r a lucky guy. As i am
having yahoo symbol lists for australia so i couldn't help you out.
sorry

  Scott,
You would need to create a symbols file to
  create new securities.
Store that symbols (file extn *.sym) file in
  your Downloader subdirectory.
  Run Downloader.
  Create new file.
Make sure that you enter the start date as an
old date, from which you want to start your analysis.
Import all the symbols from the symbol file
  list created earlier.
  Select the Download option.
  It will download the quotes.

I have a dumb question.I have Metastock but
don't use it as I have data from my broker that is virtually free that works
well with another charting platform so if I don't have any data to Metastock
at all and I download the smartdownloader, can I get EOD charts from
yahoo?Could someone walk me through it as I can't get it to work? Thanks a
    million,

There is a software called smartdownloader
      available from <A
      href="">www.hypertrader.it
      It should do the trick.
If you want to analyse the indices, <A
      href="">www.candlestrength.com has
the provision to plot and analyse most market indices.
