What about the end-of-day version. No mention of Security Data Function in
7.0 index or on pg 241.

You can do it in referencing the SPX with the "Security Data Function".
No need for SPX to be opened, exact syntax is depending if the datas are
online or local datas.
You can find examples in MS user manual page 241 (Pro 7.0/7.2 manual).
