Could some of you who are familiar with the inner workings of the Pits
give me an objective opinion on the feasibility of replacing the Pits
with a computer?

On the one hand, it seems that a computer could be programmed to do
quick, fair, and accurate matching of orders to buy and sell. On the
other hand, since the possible benefits that a computer might offer have
never been employed, I have to assume that I just don't understand the
fundamental, logical reasons that make the somewhat chaotic pit a better
method of matching orders.

A similar question might be asked about the role of the specialists.

Can anyone explain what those reasons might be?
