[amibroker] Using variables in AFL

I wish to set the initial values of HClose to -9999. In Easylanguage I would write:

Vars: HClose(-9999);

OR

If CurrentBar = 1 then HClose = -9999;

What about AFL?
I thought of writing --

HClose = IIf(BarIndex()==1,-9999,0);

But this will set the value of HClose to zero if it is not the first bar. 

My Question is: How should I setup an initial value for a variable which will be modified later on? Thanks for any help.
